Potato Prints

For art this term we are doing printmaking. Here are some photos of our potato prints in progress. We drew a scribble background and Mrs Trolle dyed it. Then we printed 2 or 3 potato prints using paint. We let them dry and then added details using pastels. It was easier to draw in the details rather than paint them in.

Chocolate Crackles!

For passion week our class will be cooking. Our first cooking group made chocolate crackles today with our parent help. We had to wash our hands first and do the dishes at the end! The good news was there were 4 crackles each to take home . . . yum :)

We Miss You Zanthy!

Zanthy has gone to spend 4 weeks in Hokitika with her Nana. We miss her already and hope she is enjoying going to a new school for a wee while. Here a few messages to you Zanthy . . .

Whose Teeth are These?!?

In Room 5 we seem to be losing teeth all over the place! Most kids have lost teeth and we have lots of holey smiles. Can you guess whose teeth are these? A prize for the first person who gets it right, but is not from Room 5 (no helping brothers or sisters!!).

We love Lego!

On Fridays we have some free time and one of our favourite activities to do is building structures using Lego and K-Nex. Here are some recent photos . . .

Dance and Drama with Jenni

On every second Friday, Room 5 is lucky enough to have Jenni (Ella's mum) come and teach us dance and drama. Jenni is a performing arts teacher and so she shares her expert talents with us! Room 5 is learning how to do a traditional samoan dance that we might share at assembly. Keep tuned for a video of us doing our dance . . . coming soon!

The Reading Rocks Show

Today a man came to Birchwood School. He was teasing us and
being funny to us. His name was Adrian. He is a juggler. At the finale he got on to a wheely cycle with Ben on his shoulders.

We enjoyed the Reading Rocks show today at Birchwood School. Adrian was very talented at juggling and riding his unicycle (or "looney cycle" as he called it!). He brought along some of his favourite books and encouraged us to open a book to discover "a new world". Adrian managed to juggle 5 balls at once and then rode his
unicycle with Ben on his shoulders! He needed Mr Russell's help to get on and off his unicycle.

We wrote fantastic stories after the show and over the next few days we will post them.

Our Class Tree

Keep an eye on our class tree over the next few days as it changes from green leaves to autumn colours. We are looking forward to making icicles and snowflakes for our tree as the winter months approach.

For art this week we began printmaking. We collected autumn leaves, painted them white and printed them onto black paper. When they were dry, we coloured the print in with crayon the autumn colours - red, orange, yellow and brown.

Week 1 Term 2

Welcome to Room 5 for 2011!

This is the first blog from Mrs Trolle' for our classroom.

We have had a busy first week back after our relaxing holidays. Our big news is that we now have a sound system in our classroom to hear Mrs T more clearly! Everyone is finding it easier to listen and follow instructions. Mrs Trolle' also changed our desks around over the holidays so we have new neighbours!
