Sam's Rugby Boots

Today Kirsten Taylor, the author of "Sam's Rugby Boots" came to read her book to our class and the other classes in the junior school.

She kindly gave the school two free copies for our library. Her book is on sale at the office for $18 and $3 is given back to the school. The books are signed copies.

Below is the link to her website. Our class is busy finishing our colouring in competitions to send to Kirsten this week.

More Crazy Coats

Crazy Coat Day

On Friday our school had a Crazy Coat day to raise money for a Christchurch School who are needing warm coats for the winter. Here are some photos of some of our crazy coats!

Roald Dahl Experts

Mrs T has read most of the Roald Dahl books with us over term 1 and 2 and we really enjoyed them all. Here are some book quiz questions for you Roald Dahl experts to answer . . .

1.) What sort of pets did Mr and Mrs Twit keep in their garden?
2.) Who did George make the medicine for in "George's Marvellous Medicine"?
3.) What was Willy Wonka very good at making in his factory?
4.) What was the principal's name in "Matilda"?
5.) What horrible food did the BFG have to eat in Giant Country?

The BFG illustration was drawn by Ella :)

Assembly Item

Well done Room 5 . . . what a fabulous assembly item! A big thanks to Jennie for teaching us the sasa dance. Inari and Ella made a great job of introducing our item as well.

If there are any parents who would like their own personal copy of the sasa movie, they could give me a blank DVD disk and I will copy it. I will also try to put a copy of it on our class blog soon (technically a little more difficult to get a good quality clip).

From Mrs Trolle

Windmills

Joseph and Adam made some windmills last night to show our class. They followed a plan from a book and made a great job of them. Our whole class is going to make windmills soon as part of our wind energy topic. Joseph and Adam will be our windmill experts!

Rippa Rugby

We had our first lesson of Rippa Rugby with Andrew today. We started by having passing and catching relays with the rugby balls and finished with a fun rippa game with taggers. It was lots of fun and we look forward to seeing Andrew again in a fortnight's time.

String Prints Part 1

For printmaking we are making string prints. These photos are our first lesson of drawing our pictures and glueing on the string with PVA glue. Next step is to take a dry print (crayon rubbing) and then a wet print (using ink and rollers). We will take more pictures over the next few weeks of our art works in progress.

Adam's Interesting Energy Research

The most famous scientist is called Albert Einstein. He was born in 1879 and died in 1955. He made many discoveries about time, space, the force of gravity and nuclear energy.

Your body needs energy to keep working. Your body uses energy when you are fast asleep. You get energy from food like bread, milk, fruit and vegetables, butter and cheese.

Energy Movie Clip

This Energy movie clip was sent to us by Jenni. It describes the kinds of energy we use every day and encourages us to think about what effects using this energy might have on our Earth. What will we do when our energy runs out??

Friday Certificates

On Friday Sophie was lucky enough to win a ticket to the Giant's home game by answering a question in assembly!

Ella and Inari got cross country certificates (Inari was first 6 year old girl, Ella was second place).

Hayden, Jonny and Adam got cross country certificates (Hayden was first 6 year old boy, Jonny was second and Adam third).

Yah Room 5!

Energy Topic

Today our school began our new topic . . . Energy!

We went to the hall to watch a "Mythbusters" episode. The science questions were: Can a toy car race faster than a real car? Why does toast always land on the buttered side? Are yawns contagious?

It was really interesting and gave us some good ideas for our Energy investigations. We also did Jump Jam to move our bodies (physical energy).

It was a great way to start our topic. Thanks to Mrs Donnelly-Greep :)
