Room 5 showed this movie and then performed a recorder song in front of the whole school for our school celebration of learning concert. Well done to those who played . . . you were very brave!

Pet Day
Today we had our school pet show in the afternoon. There was a fantastic turn out of pets in every classroom. In Room 5 Chelsey brought a chicken, Charlotte brought her pet rat "Nibbles". Zoey brought along her tadpoles. We had 5 dogs: William brought "Nettle", Hayden brought "Sky", Sophie showed us "DD", Denver introduced us to "Phantom" and Inari showed us "Maisy".
All of the dogs were well behaved and gave us lots of licks :)

Science Fair Prize
Inari collected our prize money for our winning entry in the Science Fair. We received $100 for our "Bombs Away" entry (finding out which shape parachute flew the best). With half of our money we donated a science book to our school library so that Birchwood students will have information for their future science fair entries. We still need to put our thinking caps on to decide what to spend the other half of the money on!
Happy Holidays!

Gold Award Winners!
Wow! Room 5 won the Gold Award for our science fair entry "Bombs Away!". Our science fair entry competed against lots of other schools and we were judged Gold standard :) A big thank you to Cheryl and Inari for going to the award ceremony at Broadgreen School on Friday night to collect our certificate and prize money . . . $100!!!
Sole Survivor
On Saturday I went to Natureland with my daughter Sienna. While we were there, we were asked if we would like to see the only surviving turtle from the fire at the Mapua Aquarium. All of the other 200 animals died in this fire and this little turtle was the only animal to survive. The staff at Natureland have called him Phoenix (the myth of the bird that rose from the ashes to live again). Phoenix is being well looked after as they are worried that he might have breathed in smoke from the fire. It was nice to see a life was saved after such a sad loss of our special Aquarium.

Sneak Peek!
Here is a sneak preview of the Tui bird masks that Room 5 are creating for the Nelson Wearable Mask Parade on the last day of this term. A big thank you to Cheryl (who traced and cut out 22 pairs of bird bodies and 22 tails) and Karen (who custom made 22 helmets). This week we will begin crayoning and dying our beautiful birds.
