Masquerade Masks

Yesterday we made our first masks to practice for the Wearable Arts Mask Parade at the end of this term. We created some masquerade masks. They look gorgeous with colourful feathers and sparkly sequins and glitter. Everyone was very proud of their creation :)

SPCA Cup Cake Day

Joseph made some cupcakes at home and sold them to friends and neighbours. He made $23 to add to our class total. Well done Joseph!

SPCA cupcake day

Room 5 iced and decorated around 150 cupcakes yesterday for the SPCA fundraiser. They sold out at lunch time and we raised $207! Great effort Room 5 :)

Kia Kaha

We finished our Kia Kaha unit today with a last visit from Constable Garland. We have learnt how to be confident telling people our feelings and who to go to for help.

New iPad

Our class has been given an iPad to trial in class before the school set of iPads are used in classes. Here is Ryan and Zanthy having a turn this morning.

We Love Swimming!

We are really loving swimming. We have free time when we get to the pool while Room 4 swims and then we swap over and have our lessons.

Swimming Week 3

What big improvements everyone has made after only one week of swimming! I am so impressed by how well you are all swimming and how quickly you get yourself changed each day. Keep up the great work for our last week of swimming :)

Tangrams

For maths we tried making different pictures using a Tangram puzzle. Can you guess what each picture is?

Shape Pictures

For maths we made some 2D shape pictures. Here are some of them . . .

Swimming Lesson 1

We began our swimming programme today at the Richmond Aquatic Centre. After a shaky start (the bus arriving late) we finally made it to our lesson and met our new instructors. Everyone enjoyed their first session and we were surprised to see snow flakes falling as we rushed to the bus to come back to school!

Sail Boats

For topic today we made mini sail boats to try in the wind. We used a foam cup, a skewer, a paper sail and some playdough. We would like to use the fan to test them on a container of water. We wonder if a big sail or a small sail will make any difference to how fast it travels? What do you think??

Tree Planting

Today Room 5 and Room 3 buddied up to go tree planting. We walked together to Monaco (by the cycle way) and worked in pairs to plant many native trees. It was hard work as the ground was a bit hard and stony, but everyone was very proud of their efforts at the end. Some pairs planted up to 5 trees! To thank us, Steve and John from NELMAC gave us all a small Kowhai tree to plant at home. Thank you to Janice and the parents who came and gave us a hand :)

Windmill Testing

For our Wind Energy topic we have made some windmills using paper, pins and straws. Our windmills flew very well when we tested them using Mrs Trolle's fan. We found that Inari's small windmill that she made at home rotated faster than the bigger windmills.
